Colourful Weddings: Why Ditching the Strict Colour Scheme is the Best Plan

Swap a rigid single-colour scheme for a joyful mix of tones that flatters your wedding party, energises your guests, and gives your florist more creative freedom and value.

Colourful Weddings: Why Ditching the Strict Colour Scheme is the Best Plan
Couples spend months agonising over exactly what shade of sage green will match the bridesmaids' dresses and chair sashes. But 2026 is the year of embracing a full spectrum of colour-and here is why I'm loving it!

The Wedding Party

It is incredibly rare that you will be able to find exactly colour-coordinated suits, dresses, decor, and accessories, especially if you are working with a large bridal party. And then there is the consideration of each individual member-will they all like or suit one particular colour? Probably not! Most couples know the frustration of thinking they've found the perfect supplier for bridesmaid dresses, only for them to be out of stock in a specific size, colour, or material. Then you're right back to square one! By removing the restriction of a single colour scheme, you open up a world of possibilities for your bridal party outfits. You can give your party more choice and pick attire that actually complements their colouring and personality. Trust me: they will all be much more comfortable in front of a camera and a crowd if they feel and look their best. Want to compromise? You could broaden your options to include a specific tonal range, such as "warm neutrals" or "shades of blue." This allows you to mix and match suppliers without worrying about exact matches, while still keeping your wedding party looking like a cohesive group.

Trends

Weddings are a fine balance between something timeless, something on trend, and something personal. When you are deep down the rabbit hole of planning, it can become hard to tell the difference. Avoid the "dated" look by steering clear of the colour schemes all your friends are doing. You don't want to look back at those wedding pictures and realise that your wedding was a carbon copy of everyone else's that year! Going for a multi-coloured approach keeps your wedding fun and timeless.

Guests

Make your guests part of the energy of the day. You don't need a restrictive dress code that forces everyone to take a trip to M&S for a quick wardrobe re-style. Open the day up to joyful colour and encourage your guests to be bold and bright. No swatches or mood boards required!

Floral Freedom

As a florist, it's like being a kid in a sweet shop when a couple tells me they want to welcome colour into their wedding. All of a sudden, the reins are loosened and I am free to use all sorts of gorgeous stems. It also makes a lot of sense in terms of budget. Certain colours (blue, I'm looking at you) can be very tricky to get hold of and, therefore, more expensive to pack your arrangements with. The more flexibility there is, the more value your florist can secure for you. Especially at certain times of year, some colours will be much more abundant than others. Flexibility also eliminates the pressure to get exact colour matches. Even if your florist has used a specific variety of rose a hundred times, it is still a natural product with natural variations. We cannot promise exact colour matches to dresses or decor. Even with white-you would be surprised how many shades of white there actually are! I am so excited to see more and more couples embracing mixed colour palettes. I think the joy of bright colours really encapsulates the excitement of a wedding day and is the perfect way to take the pressure off both you and your guests.
