DIY Tutorial: Create Your Own Festive Table Arrangement at Home
There is something truly special about a handmade centerpiece. Whether you're hosting a grand Christmas dinner or simply want to brighten up your dining room, a round floral arrangement adds that perfect touch of elegance and warmth. In our latest tutorial, I walk you through the step-by-step process of creating a professional-looking display using simple techniques and beautiful seasonal stems. Here is everything you need to know to recreate this look at home!

What You'll Need

  • A Design Bowl: Specifically shaped to hold floral foam.
  • Floral Foam: Half a block of soaked, biodegradable foam.
  • Foliage: I love using a mix of Eucalyptus for movement and texture.
  • Focal Flowers: White Avalanche Roses and delicate Spray Roses.
  • Textural Elements: Limonium (which dries beautifully!) and Eryngium for a wintry feel.
  • Optional: A candle and candle holder for that festive glow.

Step 1: Prep Your Base

Start with your soaked floral foam in the design bowl. A top tip [00:44] is to trim the corners of your foam block. While it's square, smoothing the edges gives you more surface area and makes your stems much more stable. If you're using a candle, insert your holder into the center now [00:32] before the greenery gets in the way!

Step 2: Establish Your Shape

Don't be intimidated by the square foam-we "cheat" the round shape using our greenery. Start by inserting four pieces of foliage at the base to set your maximum width [02:19]. Pro Tip: Angle these bottom stems slightly downward [02:51] to help disguise the plastic bowl. Once your "four points" are in, fill in the gaps to complete the circle.

Step 3: Add Your Focal Flowers

For a classic, timeless look, I've chosen White Avalanche Roses. When placing your focal flowers, aim for odd numbers (like five) and vary their heights [05:20]. Because a table arrangement is viewed from every angle, make sure to turn your bowl as you work to ensure it looks beautiful from all sides!

Step 4: Texture and Movement

Once your main roses are in, it's time to fill in the gaps.
  • Limonium: Adds a wild, airy texture [06:09].
  • Spray Roses: Using smaller clusters creates a more dynamic, multi-layered look [07:42].
  • Eryngium: These "thistle-like" flowers add a lovely wintry blue-grey tone [07:56].

Top Tips for Longevity

  • Hydrate First: Buy your flowers 24 hours in advance and let them drink in a vase before putting them in foam [06:47].
  • Timing: If you're making this for Christmas Day, I recommend assembling it around the 20th or 21st [07:07].
  • Maintenance: Keep your floral foam damp, and your roses should last 7 to 10 days [05:56].
