What You'll Need
Before we dive in, let's get our "ingredients" ready. For a classic, textured look, I recommend a mix of:- Evergreen Foliage: I love using Spruce for a sturdy base and Pistache for a different green tone.
- Textured Greens: Eucalyptus (both large and small leaf varieties) adds a beautiful, modern scent and movement.
- A Mossed Ring: You can buy these pre-mossed, which I find much easier for home crafting.
- The Basics: Reel wire or twine, florist wire, and a pair of sharp secateurs.
- Decorations: Pine cones, cinnamon sticks, and a beautiful wire-edged ribbon.
Step 1: Prep Your Foliage
The secret to a neat wreath is in the prep. You want to cut your foliage into pieces that are roughly the size of your hand. Pro Tip: Always strip the bottom inch of the leaves off to create a "clean stem". This makes it so much easier to secure your bundles to the ring without them slipping out.Step 2: The Bundling Technique
We don't attach stems one by one; instead, we create little "mini-bouquets" or bundles.- Secure your twine: Tie it firmly to your moss ring.
- Make a bundle: Take a mix of your spruce, pistache, and eucalyptus.
- Attach: Place your first bundle on the outside edge of the ring and wrap the twine around the stems tightly-give it a good tug!
- Alternate: Place your next bundle toward the inner edge, overlapping the stems of the previous one. By alternating "out" and "in" on a diagonal, you'll get a full, bushy wreath that covers the moss completely.
